There are five ways to use Luana Rent a Car: the free shuttle (Miyako Airport, Shimojishima Airport, Hirara Port, island hotels and Naha Airport), delivery and one-way return (Miyakojima store only, paid), no-refuel return, family rentals with child seats, and free trip planning with our staff.

At Naha Airport, we meet you at rental-car shuttle stop 14-B outside domestic arrivals.
Our shuttle is free. The Miyakojima store runs to and from Miyako Airport, Shimojishima Airport, Hirara Port and hotels on the island; the Naha Airport store runs from rental-car shuttle stop 14-B at Naha Airport.

What to tell us when you book: (1) the airport or port you arrive at, and your flight number or ship arrival time; (2) which store you want to pick up from; (3) where you want to be dropped off after returning the car, and your departure time.
Shuttle on return: return by 18:00; the last shuttle to Miyako Airport is at 17:45. Returning about two hours before your flight leaves plenty of time. Returns between 8:00–9:00 and 18:00–19:00 are possible for an out-of-hours fee of ¥3,300.

Delivery and one-way return
Delivery and one-way return are offered by the Miyakojima store only. We can hand over the car at a hotel or the port on the island, or accept return at a different place from where you picked up, for a distance-based fee. Booking by the day before is required; same-day requests cannot be accepted.

- The fee is ¥1,000–4,000 depending on the distance to the hand-over point. Tell us the location and we will quote before you book.
- Book by the day before. Same-day service is not available.
- Available to customers booked at the Miyakojima store.
- We check the original driving licences of all drivers at the hand-over point, just as at the store.
Hand-over at Miyako Airport, Shimojishima Airport and Hirara Port is handled by the free shuttle, not by delivery.

Minimum 2 days. Child seats and snorkel sets are paid options. Applies to bookings on this site and our booking system (excluding monthly and some OTA plans).
You do not need to refuel before returning. We hand over the car with a full tank, and we do not check the fuel level on return. There is no surcharge and no fuel settlement (all plans booked on this site or the booking system; monthly rentals and some OTA plans differ).

A loop of Miyakojima is about 100 km, which uses 5–6 litres in a kei or compact car, around ¥1,000 of fuel. The money is small; what you save is time. Petrol stations are concentrated in the Hirara area, so if you spend your last hours at Yonaha Maehama or Sunayama Beach, driving back into town to refuel can cost 20–30 minutes, and more if you went out to Irabu or Shimoji. When your flight is approaching, you no longer need to cut the day short to find a petrol station.
At return: (1) be back at the store by the return time (by 18:00); (2) any fuel level is fine, no receipt needed; (3) we skip the damage check on return, just hand back the key and the rental agreement; (4) we take you to Miyako Airport or Naha Airport by shuttle (last shuttle to Miyako Airport 17:45).
Child seats and family cars
Child and junior seats are paid options (child seat ¥800 per night, junior seat ¥400–600 per night) that you add on the booking screen. We fit up to two per car. For families we recommend the Sienta (7 seats, from ¥10,000 a day) and Delica D:5 (8 seats, from ¥12,000 a day) with sliding doors on both sides, or the Move Canbus kei car (from ¥6,500 a day).
- After choosing your dates and car in the booking system, select child or junior seats under options.
- Up to two seats per car. For three or more, please contact us before booking.
- Tell us the type (infant, toddler or junior) based on your child’s age and height. Our staff fit the seat and show you how to adjust the recline and fasten the harness before departure.
- Under Japanese road traffic law, children under 6 must use a child seat.
- Our child seats were replaced with new ones in 2026.

The price is the per-day rate × the number of days, minimum 2 days (Miyakojima store).
With a child seat fitted, the seat next to it is tight for an adult. A car with one seat more than your party is the comfortable choice.
Driving with children on Miyakojima: parking at the main beaches (Yonaha Maehama, Aragusuku, Sunayama) is free or cheap, but toilets and showers vary by beach. The cabin gets very hot in the daytime and child-seat buckles heat up, so check them before setting off. Town to Cape Higashi-Hennazaki is about 40 minutes each way; Kurima Island and Imgya Marine Garden are easy stops for a break. Child seats in the shuttle vehicle are limited; please ask when booking.

Do I need to book the shuttle separately?
No. Just tell us your flight number or ship arrival time when you book the car. The shuttle is free.
Can you deliver the car to my hotel?
The Miyakojima store can deliver to and collect from hotels on the island for a distance-based fee of ¥1,000–4,000. Please ask by the day before; same-day requests cannot be accepted.
Do I have to return the car with a full tank?
No. Return it with whatever fuel is left. There is no refuelling charge and no settlement.
How much are child seats?
Child seat ¥800 per night and junior seat ¥400 per night at the Miyakojima store; child seat ¥800, high-back junior seat ¥600 and booster ¥400 per night at the Naha Airport store. Add them on the booking screen. Up to two per car.
